Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam Her mother, who was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five her father was appointed as the curator of the Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family later moved into this historical structure. She is a 2005 graduate of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan sang as a contralto for the children's choir and she later joined the adult choir. Sullivan did not get exposed to secular music initially. "I was singing for the first time solo in the church, and someone wanted me to sign up to record a gospel song when I was 11. but I wasn't quite ready to do that," she says. "I had the privilege of being able to win a McDonald's competitionwhich gave students from big cities an opportunity to sing 'Accept what God Allows'. The audience responded positively." In the year 13 she sang with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan At the age of 15 began her career with Jive Records. She recorded an entire album. However, the album never came out. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott, who produced several tracks on her debut album, like the viral single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
